Safeguarding Policy
Safeguarding at Sensory Nest
Every child's welfare and safety comes first at Sensory Nest. Every adult who works with or around the children at our childminding setting in Newmarket, Suffolk, is responsible for safeguarding.
This page gives a short summary of how we put that into practice. You can download our full Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy further down the page.
How we keep children safe
Safeguarding is part of our daily routines, not only our paperwork. For the children in our care, that means:
-
Safe premises, equipment and routines, checked through ongoing risk assessment
-
Safer sleep arrangements, with regular checks on sleeping babies and young children
-
Close supervision at mealtimes, with food prepared to suit each child's age and stage
-
Current allergy and medical information for every child, and adults who know how to respond to choking and allergic reactions
-
Dignity and privacy during nappy changing, toileting and other intimate care
-
Collection only by a parent, carer or another adult you have authorised
Safer recruitment
We take care to make sure every adult working with children is suitable. Our checks cover identity, DBS and barred-list checks where they apply, references, employment history, and qualifications and training. Nobody is given unsupervised access to children until the required checks are in place.
Phones, photos and screen use
Personal phones, smart watches and cameras are controlled under our device policy. Photos of children are only taken on authorised devices, for an agreed purpose and with your permission. We never share identifying images or information about children on personal social media.
Any screen time is intentional and age-appropriate, and balanced with physical play, time outdoors, conversation and rest.
Working with parents and carers
We work openly and respectfully with families. If we have a concern about a child, we will talk to you about it, unless doing so could place a child or another person at risk.
Where needed, we work with Suffolk County Council, Suffolk Safeguarding Partnership, health professionals, the police and Ofsted. Safeguarding information is confidential, stored securely and shared only with the people who need it to keep a child safe.
